Born in Turin, Italy, in 1923, Martinazzi moved to Florence for his craftsmanship training in 1953. Though he was initially drawn to many different art forms, he was struck by goldsmithing. He later became interested in sculpture. In Florence, Martinazzi studied embossing, chasing, and enameling at the Scuola Statale d’Arte; he augmented his study at the Institute of Art in Rome. Martinazzi had his first solo exhibition in Turin in 1955, not long after moving to Florence, and since then he has continued to wield influence and garner acclaim. Brooch in a rectangular form made out of patinated and etched copper and stone. At the center is an embossed, relieved dimensional figure of an eye. Upper lids slightly raised and the bottom area has a curved groove. The sclera and iris are separated and raised creating the dimensional effect. The iris is etched and is filled in with black. Several text and symbols are also etched on the sides of the brooch. On the left, an arrow pointing upwards with the text “hva” on top of it. The letter “E” appears on its left. On the right side is an arrow pointing down with the text “hve” beneath it.

Gold, firm-wired necklace with a hook clasp. Two small geometric embellishment are affixed on each side, a few inches before reaching the pendant. The pendant is made out of two split gold sheets. They are slightly separated by a third piece in the form of a thin zig-zagged sheet. Each of the split sheets are raised and engraved with a relief of half a lip. Assembled together, it creates a balanced almost symmetrical orientation, with the two lips almost touching.
