Natalie Chanin is founder and creative director of Alabama Chanin. Since 2006, she has designed high end clothes that are handmade locally. After living in New York City, and unsuccessfully trying to find a manufacturer for a t-shirt line she had designed, Natalie when back to her native Alabama. She placed an ad in the paper for artisans, craftsman, and seamstresses. Several who applied had been laid off by the manufactories that had shutdown in recent years. She hired about 30 artisans, mostly women, to hand sew clothes for her newly founded company.
