IB Andersen
IB Andersen was a Danish born artist, architect, and illustrator, and the son of artist and poster designer Vlademar Anderson (Danish, 1875-1928). From 1926-29 Andersen studied architecture at the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark. While still in school in 1927, Andersen took the job for which he would become best known, as a cartoonist for the newspaper Politiken. Andersen continued to work for Politiken and its magazine Magasinet until the early 1960s. Throughout his career, he took on graphic arts commissions for book covers and posters. It includes bold text framing the whole poster and accented red, yellow, and blue. These black and white rectangular, squared, diagonal lines create buildings on a street: the buildings in the middle ground have minimal decoration save for rectangular windows and gray gradation for the walls. They are taller and skyscraper-like, the central having three rows of wide windows, the other on the left being represented only by a three-dimensional rectangle, and no discerning building features except for gradient black to gray wall. On the right side of the poster is the actual foreground, showing the inside of a building's interior, as if the outer wall were cut away for the viewing. The interior cuts into two floors: the most visible floor has a chair, radiator, desk, windows, floor, ceiling, and back wall. The interior's back wall is the accented red color and runs vertically to a barely visible floor beneath. In the visible interior, the floor is the accented yellow color. The top framing text is in black and white, sans serif bold font and reads [Akademisk Arkitektforening, Bygge og Bolig]. Along the right edge is a stout word in the same font [Dstilling]. Mirrored on the left side in a bold but thinner font reads [13end til 29 en de September aaben fra 10 til 10].
